CLUB INFO

Mercia Fell Runners is a long-standing fell-running Club with an established reputation.

HISTORY

Richard Day, our Honorary President, founded the Club in 1985 with the aim of promoting and encouraging fell running within our locality. This is not specifically defined but our membership is mainly drawn from Central and South Staffordshire, Greater Birmingham, Shropshire, Worcestershire and the Welsh borders.

RUNNERS

Our runners range from elite athletes who perform at the highest level of the sport including wins at English, Welsh and British Championships and at International level, through to beginners, those who were once very good, those who aspire to be very good and those who just enjoy the hills.

We cater for everyone who wishes to enjoy the fun, satisfaction and friendship that fell running brings.

RACES

Mercia itself organises multiple races per year. As of 2025 these are (for an up to date list and more details see the Races page on this site):

March Cardingmill Canter

Members are encouraged to help and marshall at these events, they are the principal way which we raise funds for Club activities.

Mercia also occasionally hosts National Competitions such as English and British Championship races and the UKA British Fell and Hill Running Relay Championships all of which serve to showcase our thriving and vibrant Club.

As well as Mercia-backed races, there is a full calendar of races in the catchment area, most of which are advertised at local races, in the FRA Calendar and on the Races page on this site

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The Club has its own Annual Championship contested over a number of races, of all distances throughout the year and also helps sustain individual challenges including The Bob Graham and The Paddy Buckley Rounds.
